Flood evacuations possible in Lyons for the next 3 days

DENVER (KDVR) — Residents in Lyons were warned Thursday to prepare to evacuate because of possible floods within the next 72 hours.Overnight, St. Vrain Creek reached a flow rate just below the threshold for likely flooding, according to the town of Lyons. People in the areas shaded pink in the map below are at risk and should be prepared to evacuate:People in these areas were also urged to secure any temporary furniture and outdoor items "so they do not become debris in the water."The creek reached a flow rate of 1,080 cubic feet per second overnight, and flooding becomes more likely in Lyons when it reaches 1,200 cubic feet per second, according to the town.Residents can monitor flows here.What's causing possible floods in Lyons?"Many factors contribute to this number including snow runoff, discharge from Button Rock Reservoir and localized rain/storm events," the town explained in a message to residents.Colorado is already seeing above-average snowmelt, and weeks of rain along the...

No hazardous materials found at Jamaica Plain thrift store after emergency response

No hazardous materials were found Thursday after an emergency response at a thrift store in Jamaica Plain, Boston police said. Crews initially responded to the Boomerangs on Centre Street Thursday evening after Boston police said a store employee called 911 saying they received a donated item that they believed could have continued something hazardous. While some personnel wearing yellow hazmat suits were later seen inside the shop, they were, at one point, standing alongside other officers who were not wearing the same protective gear. The scene had cleared as of around 9:45 p.m., with police saying crews determined the item in question did not pose a threat.

Mail truck involved in crash in Lynn

A mail truck was involved in a crash in Lynn Thursday that left the truck with visible damage. The crash happened at the intersection of Hanover and North Common streets on Thursday afternoon. The truck was later seen at the scene with its front end smashed in and one of its doors torn off. A separate truck later towed the mail truck away.No further information was immediately available. This is a developing story; stay with 7NEWS on-air and online for the latest updates.

Free Blue Line, other options rolled out ahead of Sumner Tunnel closure

The Blue Line will be free, parking just $2, the East Boston Ferry won’t cost you and tolls will be reduced for everyone living with the traffic-jamming closure of the Sumner Tunnel.The T is rolling out “mitigation options” while the Sumner Tunnel closes from July 5 to Aug. 31.In a bulletin shared with the Herald, Gov. Maura Healey’s transportation bosses apologized for what will be a major inconvenience for many. County's homeless population up 22% since last year

SAN DIEGO -- A local organization is continuing its federal requirement in counting people experiencing homelessness. The Regional Task Force on Homelessness released a staggering set of numbers for San Diego County.For the first time, the task force is reaching people experiencing homelessness on Caltrans property. This led them to find 661 more people. There was a 22% increase in homelessness in the San Diego region from the previous count in 2022.The task force conducted the count. Their CEO, Tamera Kohler, said the count will hopefully develop better policies and procedures for people without a home. There are faces behind the numbers.
