As WGN TV celebrates 75 years, we’re looking back with a series of stories on the history and the memories.CHICAGO — WGN-TV’s live broadcast day starts at 4 a.m. and runs until 11 p.m. – by far the most locally produced programming in the Chicago market.  “We’re on the air live for 14 hours every weekday,” WGN’s news director Dominick Stasi said.  It all starts with the top-rated WGN Morning News, which has become a Chicago staple, giving the city a sense of what’s happening, with a sense of humor. “I think my role is to bring some comedic relief,” morning meteorologist Paul Konrad said.Konrad noted the extraordinary longevity and chemistry between anchors Larry Potash, Robin Baumgarten and sports anchor Pat Tomasulo.  As the morning show is produced in the studio, a team of assignment editors led by Chris Neale is calling sources, researching ideas, and preparing an outline of the day’s events in the newsroom.   Celebrating 75 Years of WGN-TV with Larry &...

Save A Lot opening in Englewood postponed after protests

CHICAGO — Plans to open a new Save A Lot where the old Whole Foods in Englewood was located are on hold after dozens of residents protested against the store's opening. The store off of 63rd Street was expected to open Thursday, but after residents came out Wednesday night expressing their opposition, the opening date has been pushed back. Whole Foods in Englewood to close in November Some local residents said they weren't invited to a soft opening scheduled for Wednesday night. Since Whole Foods closed in November, several residents have shared the type of grocery store they want to see in its place. They said Save A Lot is not it. "People have unequivocally said they are not impressed with the Save A Lot brand," Asiaha Butler with the Resident Association of Greater Englewood said.Brianna Hobbs said the number one thing people wanted was quality products. Scheffler hits an ace during Par 3 Contest, looks to defend Masters title

AUGUSTA, Ga. (KXAN) — Defending Masters champion Scottie Scheffler jarred an ace on the ninth hole of Wednesday's Par 3 Contest, but perhaps thankfully for him, he didn't win it.Tom Hoge fired a 6-under-par to win the family-centric exhibition event on Augusta National's newly-renovated par-3 course, but it's well-known that the Par 3 winner has never won the real tournament in the same year. BOLLINGER COUNTY, Mo. - Missouri Governor Mike Parson got an aerial view of the damage left behind by an early Wednesday morning tornado in Bollinger County.“It’s a long journey ahead for the people that live here," Parson said.The tornado killed five people and injured five more. St. Louis Catholic parishioners push back against Archdiocese consolidation plan

ST. LOUIS - More than 3,000 Catholic parishioners continued to speak out against the Archdiocese of St. Louis All Things New restructuring plans on Wednesday. The parishioners are hoping to find a way to prevent parishes from merging or shutting down. The restructuring plans of the church have some parishioners on edge."They're going to officially promulgate this on Pentecost Sunday in May, but there is no indication that they are changing," said Dr. Bob Onder. "They've not shown any willingness to speak to me or to anyone else from Save Our St. Louis Parishes."Onder is the procurator for the group of 3,100 parishioners, who he said are from parishes across the diocese. The driver of a crane vehicle was killed after crashing into a power pole in Malibu on Wednesday.Los Angeles County firefighters received reports of the incident around 5:20 p.m. near Las Flores Canyon and Gorge Roads.The crash happened as the truck was driving down Las Flores Canyon Road and somehow lost control.Sky5 images show the overturned vehicle tangled in power lines while lying on a brush area. Kerr: Wiggins won’t play in Warriors’ final 2 regular-season games

Oakland 'assassin' sentenced to life in prison

(KRON) -- An Oakland man, Burte Gucci Rhodes, a.k.a. "Moeshawn," was sentenced to serve the rest of his life in prison for committing a murder-for-hire, conspiring before the murder, and dealing heroin. The sentence was handed down by the U.S. District Judge William Alsup on Wednesday.Prosecutors described 41-year-old Rhodes as an "assassin." He was convicted by a jury after a week-long trial last year. The trial focused on the March 22, 2016, murder of Louisiana native Trince Thibodeaux, 28.Prosecutors said trial evidence demonstrated that Marcus Etienne, a.k.a.
