The alacritous rescue of depositors at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Signature Bank by the federal government over the weekend is getting a cynical and frustrated response from taxpayers.Many of the people who The Hill spoke to for this article are nervous that the financial system could be crashing around them again – and angry that rich venture capitalists can get a speedy bailout from the government while expanded social services and loan forgiveness seem to be forever out of reach.“What am I, surprised that our economy is run by people who own banks? Prosecutors: Clayton man posed as girl online to obtain child porn

ST. LOUIS - A federal judge has sentenced a Clayton, Missouri, man to 11 years in prison after he posed as a girl online to obtain nude photos of minors. Jason W. Fine, 50, was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine and special assessments of $45,000 that will go into a fund for victims and prevention programs. He pleaded guilty last November to two felonies, soliciting child pornography and receiving child pornography. Edgar Springs, Missouri woman charged following drug bust

ROLLA, Mo. - An Edgar Springs, Missouri, woman has been charged following a drug bust at her home.According to Capt. Jason Smith, Rolla Police Department, members of the Phelps County Sheriff's Department joined Rolla law enforcement in serving a search warrant in the 25000 block of County Road 6050 on March 13.Police seized 150 capsules containing a total of 15 grams of fentanyl, as well as six grams of methamphetamine. For visual and comparative purposes, one gram is the equivalent of a sweetener packet. A pistol and other items used for drug distribution were also confiscated.The Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged April Clift, 45, with second-degree trafficking of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Copper Mountain will enjoy its longest ski season in 25 years with a two-week extension that was announced by resort officials on Wednesday.Thanks to abundant snow that fell consistently throughout its golden anniversary season, Copper Mountain will remain open through May 7.“It’s been a great 50th season,” said Copper’s president and general manager, Dustin Lyman, according to a news release. “The strong start and consistent snowfall all winter, paired with incredible work from our mountain operations team, has put us in a really good position to extend. 8 kids sickened after possibly eating pot gummies at Sun Valley school

Eight children were treated Wednesday afternoon after possibly ingesting marijuana gummies at a school in Sun Valley, officials said.The incident was reported around 1:20 p.m. at 7330 N. Bakman Avenue, the site of Sun Valley Magnet School, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.The patients were being evaluated for "sudden illness" after ingesting what is believed to be chewable marijuana, officials said. They were all conscious and breathing.The boys and girls are between 12 and 16 years old.
