Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for May 5, 2023.AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Austin Police Department said it was searching for an armed suspect who robbed and pepper-sprayed a store employee April 17 in southeast Austin.APD said its robbery unit needed help identifying the suspect involved in the aggravated robbery that happened at 9:13 a.m., at the Furia Western Wear store at 5717 South Interstate 35 Frontage Road.Austin Police said the suspect pointed a handgun at a store employee and demanded money from the cash register. AUSTIN (KXAN/Nexstar) — Texas House Democrats on Friday leveled a successful procedural objection to Senate Bill 14, which would ban gender transition care for minors. This is the second roadblock to the Republican priority legislation after a vote was delayed earlier in the week when opponents filled the chamber's gallery in protest.The bill was set for a vote Tuesday but the protests and a parliamentary move changed the plan. CLEVELAND — Less than a week ago, the Twins decided to option Alex Kirilloff to Triple-A, his wrist healthy and his rehab assignment complete.On Friday, the Twins abruptly reversed course.With relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar landing on the injured list with a right oblique strain, the Twins had an opportunity to bring up the first baseman/outfielder and seized it. Man shot, killed in parking lot of north St. Louis County business

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - One man was fatally shot Friday morning in the parking lot of a north St. Louis County business.The shooting happened just before the noon hour in the 7000 block of West Florissant Avenue. The St. Louis County Police Department says the shooting happened at the parking lot of a business, though have not disclosed which business. Investigators say a man was found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He was rushed to a hospital, but later died from his injuries. Dust storm closes westbound I-70 east of Denver International airport

Man, 4 teens arrested in connection with stabbing near L.A. High School

A man and four teenagers have been arrested in connection with a stabbing near Los Angeles High School that left two people injured earlier this week, police announced Friday.The incident was reported around 4:20 p.m. near the intersection of Olympic and Riampau boulevards near the Mid-Wilshire campus.Two teenage boys, 15 and 16, were stabbed during a fist fight. San Bernardino County pays $1.1 million to settle ransomware attack

San Bernardino County paid a $1.1 million ransom on Friday to hackers who infiltrated the sheriff’s department network.“The network disruption within the Sheriff’s Department was the result of ransomware that infected portions of the department’s information technology system,” said county officials.Authorities became aware of the attack on April 7 and took steps to secure the system while working with information technology staff and forensic specialists to investigate the infiltration.County officials said most of the ransom payment was covered by insurance, while the county’s share of payment totaled $511,852.“The decision whether to render payment was the subject of careful consideration,” said spokesperson David Wert. “On balance and consistent with how other agencies have handled these types of situations, this was determined to be the responsible course.”Since the hack on April 7, few details have been released.
